From Barry Levy - (past Advertising Director, Moo & Oink)
"I first met Richard when he was at WJPC radio over 30 years ago.  I was in charge of advertising for Moo & Oink and we had just began running some morning spots there and the General Manager, Mr. Mootry introduced me to Richard.  He told me that Richard was one of the few radio personalities that understood a lot more about radio than most people and if I wanted to collaborate with him I would find him very interesting.

We got together to do a few promotions with WJPC and Richard began to produce and edit our radio commercials and helped put together a lot of the jingles heard on the radio or TV.  Richard was a genuine pleasure to work with, a great sounding board as well as a creative factor in Moo & Oink's radio commercials. We did a few jingles that seemed to last forever, they became donut holes for sale items that were produced every Monday for weekly airing. Our on air voices, first Tookie then Tommy would record the script and Richard would take it from there.

Looking back at all the years Richard worked with Tommy and myself, I would have to say the best stuff we did was preparing the float each year for the Bud Billiken parade.  Richard always personally handled the stadium sized sound system for the float and generator, making sure that no one escaped the jingle we were so proud of. He edited that jingle for various production numbers over the years at least a 100 times.

When I resigned from M & O in 2006, I often answered my cell phone and heard Richard's distinctive voice on the other end, well hello there...

Savina, I will miss Richard's even tempered disposition and creativity.  It was always a pleasure being in his company.   I will never forget my years working with him and Tommy on various projects and meetings.  My prayers are with you and the family.

Sincerely, Barry Levy - past advertising director - Moo & Oink.

“I want to send my condolences to the entire Pegue family and to thank them for sharing Richard with all of us.  I emailed as soon as I heard about Richard's passing.  I always felt a special bond because when I was going through a very rough time in my life the one thing that I could count on was the music and the true gentle man that was Richard Pegue. One Sunday morning I finally got up the nerve and called and was never so honored to speak to anyone, before or since.  God bless to all of you and thanks again Richard.  You will be missed.”

“Back in somewhere around 1976 or '77...I first listened to Richard Pegue & the "Best music of your life" on WJPC AM station, when I was only 9 or 10 yrs old. He used to come on every Sunday & he would just make my day! The week would not seem to be complete without hearing him on the radio. He used to have the game "Name that tune" & it would help challenge my knowledge of the dusties as I was quite knowledgeable of at that tender age. Because I was so young I couldn't go to the "Dusty Record Convention" I only dreamed about...until I finally went in Nov.2005! In the 80's I listened to Mr. Pegue on WGCI (both am & fm) & I followed him thru the years (in the late 90's) as he played the dusties on WVON, and (from 2005-until Sat. nite before last) on WKKC. I attended the last "Dusty Record Convention" in Nov. 2008, and I never will forget winning the tickets on the radio & picking them up from Mr. Pegue at the 'Senior Citizen Center' on 79th Street down from the Regal Theater. About 23-years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Pegue at the WGCI studio...late one Saturday night … as he was spinnin' the dusties. His assistant, Sherl Jackson (an old friend of the family), knew how I loved Mr. Pegue & his music so much ... and, she introduced him to me (at the time a 17 yr old aspiring to be like him!) and I remember staying in the studio asking questions & jammin' with Sherl & Mr. Pegue from 12 midnight 'til about 4 am (then, I couldn't take no more jammin!). Mr. Richard Pegue has brought so much sunshine to so many people....and I will never ever forget him for as long as I may live! Radio has just gotten a lot less interesting now. Rest in peace, my buddy ... The lord has spoken unto you & said: "Well done, thou good and faithful servent!" (Matthew 25:21) Your friend, Glynn Hall (faithful listener since 1977).”

“I am still in shock to hear about the untimely passing of Richard Pegue.   I grew up listening to Richard Pegue on late Saturday nights when he was DJ on WVON.  I have followed him throughout the years and was excited when I found him broadcasting at WKKC.    How will I fill this void in my life?   Thank you Richard Pegue for giving me the Best Music of my Life...  You will be sorely missed; but always remembered.”

“Richard Pegue has been my idol now since I was a 9 yr old kid listening to him on WJPC back in 1978!  I went away to college in 1987 down at Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, and I was blessed with my own radio-program where I played dusties on a station called WIDB AM & FM. My dusty program came on from 8 am – 12 noon every Saturday morning and they called me "the Herb Kent of Carbondale", but no disrespect to Herb, it was RICHARD PEGUE that I always wanted to be like & jamm the dusties like!!!  We'll all miss you Mr. Pegue, you will be forever etched in my memories and in my heart!   To the Pegue family ... We all loved Richard Pegue BEST, but GOD loved him MOST!!! Keep your heads to the sky & ask the LORD to give you comfort in these trying hours!   Glynn "the Dusty-record man" Hall”

“Pegue is gone to a better place, but not to be forgotten.  I used to live on 31 St. right by WVON. Didn’t know about oldies till I heard the show in the 70’s. It is the best music. I was one of the many Hispanics out there that listen to the show. I like his fans to know that we love Mr. Pegue and we will miss you. May the music play forever. "My deepest sympathy goes out to the family.  I will miss   you IMr. Richard Pegue.  I have listened to you since the 60's and have followed your music wherever you were even at the Taste on Fridays.  I have enjoyed listening to you on Saturday nights as well as when you played on Sundays's.  I liked when you would give the history behind the song or the group when you would play a record.  I remember when you called me once and played "One woman" by Joanne Garrett.  I still have that conversation on my cassette.  I know in Heaven you will be jammin those dusties because they are the 'Best Music of Your Life'"

"Words cannot express the hurt and pain I feel from the loss of Richard.  He was not just a disc jockey he was a music officianado.  He lived and breathed music.  He shared his love and wisdom of music with as many fellow human being as he possibly could each and every day whether he was on the air, in a car, sitting, standing, dancing, playing, being serious etc.  Richard was a walking encyclopedia of "the best music of your life" and there will never be anyone who can replace him.  Richard was like the bridge between the original Good Guys on WVON, WBEE and WBMX, WJPC, WVAZ etc.  There was no one who could take "dusties" to another level at midnight.  Richard "may you rest in peace" by taking "dusties to the next and best level" which you so richly deserve."

He had a side that was so profound, He was alwayd able to  get down
Jingle King, creating commercials, oh we had so much fun but the love I have for him will never be done
I loved what we did and how we did it
Push into the studio and set up , Ready, record and then we'd be up

Moo and Oink kept him busy, The Dusty Record Convention, he did them so easy.  The Bus Stop with Charlie Green, Chris Shirley and me, oh we were definitely the team
Everyone wanted a piece of Pegue
He was so talented, how could you not wnat him, it was to be
Heard on the radio as a jock, was heard more of when he was doing his spots.  Funny, witty and sometimes serious, Richard Pegue had a way that left us curious

Rest well Dear Richard until we all see each other again. Junior (Lawrence Jr.) and I will never forget you. We loved you so very much! My prayers will be wirh you Sevina (Outer Drive Annie). I found out the sad news just today while here at work-It thought that it was appropriate that Richard passed just before this week-end because he would do a special Daylight Savings show when he'd play all songs that were time-related through title or topic. Every show he did was a lesson in musical knowledge and I fancied myself as one of his best students.Thank you Richard for what you taught the me and the world about "Dusty" records. When I was younger you were a positive role model for all of the young people in Park Way Gardens. I thought you were going to be a professioal photographer instead you became the best dusty d.j. from Chi Town. I am proud to have been a friend. I will miss you Richard and so will many others!

"To the family of my Special Friend.  I've known Richard for many, many years.  He created "The Best Music Of Your Life" and when doing a set at the Grand Ballroom one year I put that phrase on my pluggers and he came looking for me.  We had the Best Argument of our lives.

I later apologized and promised to NEVER use those words on my pluggers again.  We kissed and made  up and those words live on even as we speak and he was my 'Friend For Life'"

"It's amazing that when you enter into this website and take a look at the beautiful skyline, it makes you think of all the lives and all the peoples whose lives may be touched by our own...So many times we take things for granted, one of those things we take for granted are our radio DJ's.  We simply tune in and expect for them to be there.

It saddened me to hear of the passing of Richard Earl Pegue, for he has truly been there and many lives have been touched by his presence, while he played a favorite song, sometimes one that we forgotten about; and once played, oh, the flood of memories that that song would bring back.

That's the beautiful thing that we sometimes have taken for granted in our Dusty DJ Richard E. Pegue, he had the power to make us call to memory where we where, who we were with and all those things that accompanied that song that has been woven within the path of our lives.

These songs help us to remember and celebrate the good times, reminisce the bad times, and to long for and appreciate family and friends now with us and those who are not.

It's so fitting that he chose Sharon Ridley's "Stay a While With Me", as his theme song, the lyrics are so loving as well as inviting.

An invitation I have glady accepted each time I tuned into Richard, and for each time I will hear it from here on, it is him I will think of, as I continue to "live each day as it comes".

Thank you Richard, for your love and dedication to helping us all live a richer and fuller life, through your efforts and the music you have so loving played for us each time we tuned into you.

My condolences to your Family and many, many friends and fans whom I know have been touched by your life."
